How Public Companies Communicate Effectively with Investors [TRP]

Investor Relations play a key role in every public company as the primary and most trustable source of information for any investor. You may think that with the existence of an enormous number of research tools and analysts covering the market, the investor relations officer is out of fashion. Let us tell you a secret: for a lot of investors that keep an eye on the companies they invest in and want to know where the companies are heading to, the IR department still keeps a central role.

Why it is important for companies to maintain strong and transparent relations with their investors? Because for a company, every investor, no matter if big or small, makes a difference. This is why, in public companies, Investor Relations departments find their place and are required to act in the benefit of the shareholders. But are the IR departments a hard to get ivory tower for retail investors? Many would say yes, even if the answer is definitely no! Getting in touch with the IR office via email, phone or internal channels of communication specially designed for investors is easier than ever. But how many investors know how to get in touch with the company they are looking to invest in or, moreover, how many investors really have an interest in sitting in the front row in order to find out what is going on in a company, when it is much easier to pick up the news from analysts or public sources?

In order to understand more about how investors can benefit from an active communication with the Investor Relations department, we have invited Alexandra Șică, Investor Relations Manager at TeraPlast, to join us for a discussion about the best ways of communicating with the investors, the most important information any investor should be aware of and about how to stay rational when it comes to numbers and the long-term development strategy of a company.

TeraPlast is  the largest Romanian manufacturer of construction materials, with a current market capitalization of RON 1.113 billion (USD 227 million). In 2008, the company went public on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
